Sugar Glider Vet - The Veterinarian's Sugar Glider Resource
Welcome Sugar Glider Veterinarian!

We have designed this site with 3 goals in mind:

1)  To provide you with up-to-date information on the best practices in sugar glider care and medicine as evidenced by current research and standards of practice.

2)  To assist you in making connections with veterinarians who regularly treat the most difficult and rare of conditions in sugar gliders.

3)  To provide you with printable information that you can pass along to pet parents in order to ensure that your patients are properly cared for at home and that your pet parents have the most current information about sugar gliders in their hands.

While the internet can be a wonderful source of information, it can also serve to spread misinformation.  As the popularity of sugar gliders has increased, so has the presence of mill breeders, mill brokers, hoarders, and others whose priority is not the animal’s well being.  As veterinarians, the results of mill breeding and impulse pet buying are ones you see daily in all types of animals.  The “business” of animals is a sad one, and those who benefit from it are sometimes difficult to spot.  Some businesses operate sites which provide information, some of which is beneficial.

Unfortunately, many of these sites also put out information that supports their business practices.  By limiting our focus solely to sugar gliders, our group has the advantage of being able to recognize some of these sites.  One of the more recent examples is the ASGV (Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians).   There is some solid information contained on the ASGV site, but the majority of it is not.  Many veterinarians signed up for this organization without being aware that a mill breeder/broker was operating it.  Much information given by that site was slanted to make the mill breeder/brokers’ practices appear to be acceptable care.

The organizations which have contributed to create this site - Sugar Glider Vet Info -  are made up of a variety of individuals, with over 50 years combined  experience with sugar gliders.  We have individual pet owners, small breeders, non-profit organizations, and rescue homes.  No one in these organizations stands to gain anything tangible from the existence of this site.  Our only goal is to further sugar glider knowledge so that we all, veterinarians and pet owners, can provide better lives for sugar gliders.
